Reflective Listening Practice Session
with Amalia Phillips
Time & Location
Mar 23, 2022, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
About The Event
The purpose of this one-session workshop is to practice reflective listening—a core skill of Compassionate Listening and essential for all productive dialogue.
Reflective listening is a powerful skill in everyday conversation and in times of great conflict. We feel deeply heard when a listener reflects our own words back to us, without interpretation and their own stories. Reflective listening helps the speaker to deepen their own story and find the meaning in it. When the speaker feels deeply heard, a connection is made at the level of the heart, space is created, and relationships are built, even with people you do not agree with.
Join me to practice the three levels of listening: the facts of the event that took place, the feelings of the person telling the story, and the values underneath the feelings— values which the speaker may hold as so dear that life would not be worth living without them!

- Anyone who is willing to remove the armor of self-protection, and notice where they can create more connection

Breakout rooms will be used to guide participants through our introductory curriculum in small groups. Please connect to the event using a device that has full video and audio capability, and plan to have your video turned on for the majority of the workshop once it begins. (It's okay to turn your video off temporarily if a background visual distraction occurs.)
