Internship Description

PURPOSE: To gain experience in a range of non-profit management and operational tasks with an organization focused on conflict transformation and everyday peace-building. To learn about specific issues involved with program management. To design and implement an independent project. To assist The Compassionate Listening Project (TCLP) in accomplishing its goals and implementing its projects. Interns will work with staff online to gain practical experience in the areas of fundraising, public relations, education, event planning, and general organizational operations. Each intern will also be expected to complete at least one independent project, to be determined by staff with intern input, by the end of the internship. TERM: 10 Weeks, June – July – August (Initial orientation meetings to take place in May) HOURS: Interns are expected to work 12 to 15 hours per week. LOCATION: Interns will work remotely during set hours (to be determined with staff). A weekly in-person meeting or phone check-in with staff is required each week. Interns will also spend time with TCLP staff, board members, or volunteers to work on specific projects. COMPENSATION: This is an unpaid position. The intern will receive a stipend of $500.00 for the 10-week position. HOUSING: Housing is not provided. REPORTS TO: Kirsten Szykitka, Director of Project Development and Outreach DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 8-10 hours/week: - General administration and outreach - Assist with social media outreach and posting; track engagement metrics - Assist with content creation for website and social media - Assist with facilitator and participant coordination - Research grant funding and partnership opportunities - Assist with database management, including donor, participant, and facilitator record keeping - Other general administrative support as needed such as responding to emails and participant inquiries, preparing workshop materials, coordinating meetings, taking meeting minutes, providing Zoom support, etc. 4-5 hours/week: - Project planning and implementation - With mentorship of TCLP staff, create and implement one or more independent projects to be determined by intern and staff and to be completed by August 31. - Projects areas listed in the application form below. Opportunities will be available for participation in an introductory Compassionate Listening workshop at no cost. (These hours are not included in total internship hours.) APPLICATION: To apply, please send: - Internship application (see below). - Current résumé, which includes your educational and work experiences with dates - Writing sample: this can be a 2-3 page excerpt from a recent academic writing assignment, an article written for the student paper, a newsletter, etc. Please include the date this sample was written. - Two letters of recommendation An online video interview will also be required before acceptance into the internship program. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: - College coursework in a related field, such as political science, sociology, divinity, psychology, or conflict resolution. - Computer skills, including Google docs and Excel (or Google Sheets). Database experience is helpful. - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. - Excellent communication skills. - All interns must read and sign the TCLP Confidentiality Statement and Intern Contract. - Interns must maintain political omnipartiality in all verbal and written communications connected with TCLP. EVALUATION: An exit interview and written evaluation of intern will be provided by TCLP at the end of the internship. A written evaluation by the intern will also be requested by TCLP. With successful completion of this internship, TCLP can provide endorsements on Linkedin and letters of recommendation.
