About The Event
This event is held over two Saturdays, 3/14 11am-4pm and 3/21 11am-4pm
This purpose of this training is to establish a group of people willing to engage others with conversations across the many social rifts that challenge our American cultural landscape (e.g. race, gender, politics, climate, etc.). Attendance at both events is required. The purpose is not to change people’s opinions or beliefs but to better understand other’s point of view but to connect to our deeper places of humanity in which we have much in common.The training emphasis is on strengthening the influence of the heart through cultivating compassion for ourselves and others and learning to listen and speak from the heart – even in the heat of conflict. By doing this we reach through layers of defensiveness and reactivity to our essential core. From there, harnessing the power of our heart, we can shift communication and relationships into compassionate interaction. We are learning to be the peace that we wish to see in the world. The highly experiential training has the following core practices:
- Developing the Fair Witness by remaining open and working with triggers in conflict situations;
- Respecting Self and Others by developing boundaries which protect yet include;
- Listening with the Heart – allow divergence and find a deeper point of connection;
- Speaking from the Heart with language that reflects a healing intention.
