Digital communication has become central to how we relate at work, in community, and in personal life. In these spaces, we meet one another without voices, faces, or bodies, yet our language still has an impact. In these virtual spaces, misunderstanding can grow quickly, which creates opportunities for repair.

This experiential workshop invites participants into a courageous exploration of how Compassionate Listening can live in digital spaces. Together, we will slow down and notice what happens in our bodies, hearts, and imaginations when we communicate online. Through guided reflection, embodied awareness, dialogue, and role play, we explore how presence can be cultivated even when embodied cues are absent.

Rather than striving for perfect communication, this workshop offers space to practice curiosity, compassion, and repair. Participants are supported in exploring how small shifts in language can soften misunderstanding and sustain connection in everyday online communication.

This offering is for everyone navigating relationships through technology who wish to bring more skill into their digital communication, supporting more thoughtful responses, clearer expression, and an increased capacity for repair when challenges arise.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be invited to:

• Explore how meaning is shaped in digital communication when voice and body cues are absent

• Increase awareness of their embodied and emotional responses to written and online messages

• Practice Compassionate Listening principles in digital communication contexts

• Examine common sources of misunderstanding, such as projection, imagined tone, and assumptions of intent

• Experiment with language that supports connection, and relational repair

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

• A clearer understanding of what shifts when communication moves into digital spaces and why misunderstandings can arise more easily

• Practical experience using somatic awareness to pause and respond more intentionally to emotionally charged messages

• Greater capacity to listen with curiosity rather than assumption in digital exchanges

• Familiarity with heart-centered communication practices that support clarity and connection, including:

  • naming relationship before content

  • acknowledging feelings when appropriate

  • choosing clarity over reactivity

  • leaving space for response

• A set of personal Digital Compassionate Listening commitments to support ongoing reflection and practice

A limited number of scholarship tickets are available for those who require financial assistance in order to attend.

The cost for this workshop series is tiered according to a pay-as-you-are-able structure. This enables us to offer workshops in a financially sustainable way while creating accessibility for those without the financial means to attend, as well as opportunities for generosity for those who would like to support others' attendance.

This session will be held on Zoom. It is experiential and requires your full presence, participation, and a commitment to show up fully with your video and without distraction. In order to make the most of your experience and support others' learning and engagement, please:

• Plan to arrive in a quiet, distraction-free environment, fully present and available to experience the workshop.

• Connect to the event using a device that has full video and audio capability.
