Film, Story & Compassionate Listening
Sunday, November 8 | Online | Free
What happens when we listen - not to debate, persuade, or change another person - but to understand the human being behind the story?
Join Leah Green, international peacemaker and founder of The Compassionate Listening Project, for a special online event featuring two films from the early years of Compassionate Listening (CL) in Israel and Palestine.
We’ll screen Children of Abraham, produced by Leah, which follows one of her extraordinary CL journeys to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza with a delegation of Jewish community leaders from across the U.S. as they meet with Israelis and Palestinians from diverse backgrounds - including Israeli settlers and the founder of Hamas in Gaza City.
We’ll also share a short film that documents a CL training for Palestinian and Israeli peace leaders, facilitated by Leah and Maha El Taji Tahsin - an intimate glimpse into the courage it takes to listen to the “other” across profound histories of pain and loss.
Leah will set the context for the films and share stories from the birth and evolution of The Compassionate Listening Project: how a small experiment in listening grew into an international peacebuilding organization.
Leah recently retired as Director after 36 years of devoted service to this work. This is an opportunity to look back with her at where Compassionate Listening began - and to consider why the practice of listening across divides is more urgently needed now than ever.
There will also be time for reflection and dialogue.
This event is free; everyone is welcome.
Come for the films and the stories. Come to remember what is possible when we listen for the humanity in one another.
