Israel/West Bank March 2001 Itinerary

March 12th - Fly day

Day 1, Tuesday March 13th - (National Palace Hotel)
Arrive Tel Aviv, meet bus to Jerusalem, group dinner, welcome, Old City walk.

Day 2, Wednesday March 14th - (National Palace Hotel)
1. Introductions; Compassionate Listening Training; orientation to neighborhood;
2. Listening sessions;
3. Gila Svirsky - leader in the Israeli Women's Peace Movement.

Day 3, Thursday March 15th - (National Palace Hotel)
1.Sara Kaminker, past Jerusalem City Council member and city planner for E. Jerusalem under Mayor Teddy Kollek, at her home in French Hill;
2. Darwish Darwish, Mukhtar (Mayor), Issawiye Village - home visit;
3. Judy Balint, Public Relations and Rabbi Chaim Silverstein, Director,Yeshivat Beit Orot, Mount of Olives (proponent of Jewish settlement in Palestinian E. Jerusalem), visit Jewish neighborhoods/settlements in E. Jerusalem - Gilo, Har Homa, Mt. of Olives;
4. Evening: group

Day 4, Friday March 16th - (National Palace Hotel)
1. 11:00 - 1:00 - Interfaith vigil for peace (with Eliyahu McLean, Devorah Brous, and others) - near Western Wall and the Temple Mount in the Old City;
2. Free time in Old City (optional tour of holy sites);
3. Dalia and Yehezkel Landau, founders, Open House Peace Center, Ramle, Israel - Shabbat gathering in their West Jerusalem home.

Day 5, Saturday March 17th - (overnight with Palestinian families - West Bank)
1. Zoughbi Zoughbi, director, Wi'am, Palestinian Conflict Resoluation Center, Bethlehem, with wife Elaine; (via Beit Jala)
2. Hebron - hosted by Compassionate Listening coordinator, Hisham Sharabati, human rights worker/journalist. Photographic Exhibition of the Intifada in Hebron; orientation to Hebron; dinner and overnight with Palestinian families.

Day 6, Sunday March 18th - (overnight at Kibbutz Tzova)
1. Hebron - more visits/meetings, including Abraham's Tomb/Ibrahimi Mosque, Settler's museum of the 1929 Jewish massacre, Jewish cemetery in Tel Rumeida, H2 area of Hebron under Israeli control;
2. Atta Jaber family in the Beqaa Valley in the Hebron district at home of Atta's parents;
2. Kibbutz Tzova - dinner;

Day 7, Monday March 19th - (National Palace Hotel)
1. Listen to Kibbutz members Saadia and Carol; visit their home/garden;
2. El Bireh visit (West Bank) - Mohammad Shtayyeh, Senior Economic Advisor to President Arafat and Director, PECDAR (Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction);
3. Return to Jerusalem

Day 8, Tuesday March 20th - (National Palace Hotel)
1. Betsy Kallus, Project Advisor, Abraham Fund - Jerusalem Office (update on Jewish-Palestinian coexistence work);
2. Jeff Halper, Coordinator, Israeli Coalition Against House Demolitions;
3. Hope Flowers School - Independent West Bank Palestinian school with peace and democracy education (www.hopeflowers.org); with Director and teacher, Hind and Ghada Issa, El Khader;
4. Sheikh Abdul Aziz Buchari - Sufi spiritual leader;

Day 9 - Wednesday March 21st - (National Palace Hotel)
1. Dr. Adnan Abdel Razek, Department of Political Affairs, Orient House (Palestinian political seat in E. Jersusalem);
2. Yuval Steinitz - Israeli member of Parliament (Knesset), Likud, in his Knesset office;
3. Ester Golan, Holocaust survivor and member, Israel Interfaith Association - home visit;

Day10 - Thursday, March 22nd - (Kibbutz Ha'on, Sea of Galilee)
1. Peter Lerner, Spokesman, Israeli Civil Administration (military headquarters), West Bank;
2. Kibbutz Ha'on, Sea of Galilee;
3. Dvorah, Anael and Israeli peace friends in Rosh Pina in the upper Galilee - women and men involved in Jewish - Arab dialogue (home gathering).

Day 11 - Friday, March 23rd - (Kibbutz Ha'on)
1. Morning off for swimming, walking, etc.;
2. Arrabeh Village - family of Asel Asleh, whose son was killed by Israeli Security Forces in October at the start of the Intifada (Asel was a participant in Seeds of Peace - a peace camp in Maine for Middle Eastern youth);
3. Israeli - Palestinian dialogue at House of Hope - Palestinian peace center in Shefar'Am in the Galilee. With Elias Jabour, director, other House of Hope members, and Israeli friends;

Day 12 - Saturday March 24th - (overnight at National Palace Hotel)
1. Home visit with Deb Reich and family, Karkur.
2. Neve Shalom - intentional Jewish-Palestinian community and School for Peace - dinner and join for havdalah and zikr of Sufi conference;
3. Yehudah Wachsman, (Father of Nachson Wachsman who was a victim of terror), founder, Foundation for Tolerance;

Day 13 - Sunday March 25th
1. Eliahu McLean, Israeli spiritual peace activist;
2. Workshop with Gaby Meyer, Israeli spiritual leader;
3. Closing circle and group dinner;
