Board of DirectorsMaria Cook has taught for Outward Bound, Marine Science Under Sails, and Sound Experience, and ran her own business leading Adventure Cruises on her 52' ketch in the Caribbean. Maria is a graduate of American Institute of Massage Therapy, and Wu Hsing Tao School of Classical Acupuncture, and she has managed her private practice in the healing arts for 16 years. Maria has served her community as a board member for several environmental organizations including Sound Experience, which owns an operates the 125' educational and training schooner, Adventuress. She takes pride in her significant contribution to the purchase and management of a valuable tract of Bainbridge Island land by a resident's association. Currently she is Vice President of Islander Resident's Association, a land owning cooperative. Maria has completed the Advanced Training in Compassionate Listening. Kathryn Bennett Keve, PhD, Educational Consultant, Global Source Education: Kathryn's interest in The Compassionate Listening Project began with the Monday Night Practice Group in Kitsap County and she is currently interested in developing school programs. She is a graduate of the Phoenix Art Therapy Institute and The Union Institute (Clinical Psychology) with a foundation in developmental and relational-based therapies with children. Her practice was oriented towards prevention programs-on a community level working with a city-wide partnership in Scottsdale, AZ, and in practice, providing on-site school programs. She addresses the challenges of enriching public education in her forthcoming book: The First 'R' is Relationship: Schools, Parents and Students on the Same Page. Kathryn also has marketing and organizational skills gained during a 20 year business career, as a community leader, and her own business KeveOriginals, offering marketing services, photography and graphic design. Kathryn was one of the original members of Suquamish Olalla Neighbors and has participated in other projects with the Suquamish Tribe.Phyllis Selinker: As an attorney in private practice, a legal services program director and a planner for Washington's legal services delivery system, Phyllis has worked to provide poor and marginalized people with an opportunity to be heard in our civil justice system. She has received numerous county and state awards and several programs she helped create have received national awards. Phyllis has a keen understanding of nonprofit management issues including grant compliance, personnel and fiscal management, program design and project evaluation. Phyllis has a B.A. in International Relations from American University, M.Libr. and J.D. degrees from University of Washington, and is a certified mediator. She is currently an independent consultant and trainer. David Stallings: In the course of a diverse 35-year career in many aspects of urban and transportation planning, David Stallings has proven to be a successful innovator of national award-winning projects in public transportation. He is currently a lead market developer for King County (Washington) Metro Transit, where he has negotiated and managed many creative funding partnerships with local cities, major corporations and the State of Washington. He also has conducted national training workshops in employment training program evaluation and design for the U.S. Department of Labor, and has led training and support teams associated with business management and geographic information systems applications. David holds an M.A. (in cartography) and Ph.D. (in urban and social geography) from the University of Washington. He has taught urban geography at Kansas State University and at the University of Washington. Neva Welton: After several years of working with youth and adults through community mental health programs, private practice and nonprofit organizations (MA, Counseling Psychology, Antioch Seattle, 1995), Neva turned her attention to community organizing and movement building. To that end, she has co-authored two books (Global Uprising, Confronting the Tyrannies of the 21St Century: Stories from a New Generation of Activists, and Speaking and Listening from the Heart: A Facilitator's Handbook); co-founded Kitsap Citizen Action Network and Sustainable Bainbridge, and was Executive Producer for The Conscientious Projector Film Festival (2001-2005). She also had leadership roles in local politics and election campaigns. Currently, Neva serves as Director of Communications for The People-Centered Development Forum's Great Turning Initiative and is also vice-president on the board of Sustainable Bainbridge.
